t is impossible to confuse the old town with the new, because the two Tarantos are separated by water. The Punta Penna Pizzone Bridge, better known as Aldo Moro bridge joins the two ends of the city allowing a quick transfer from the north to the south part of town. As well as uniting both parts of Taranto, the bridge restores the original look of the city to a certain extent. The Old Town is an artificial island made in 1480 when the part connecting it to terra firma was severed to defend it from Turkish attack. Now the Aldo Moro bridge connects the two parts of the citadel once more.
