HOMAGE TO THE SEA
Taranto
Concattedrale Gran Madre di Dio - Via Blandamura 7
Built in the 1860’s, the Holy Mother of God Co-cathedral designed by Gio Ponti is a homage to the sea.
The structure is made of a great sail which reflects in the three basins symbolising the sea. The façade is formed by two elements, the secondary element 50 metres on from the first one is made of two walls covered with holes which from 40 metres’ height substitute the cupola.
Inside the church, the green of the seabed stands out and the rough white walls are typical of the Tarantine houses.
