There are two most famous Taranto sailors.
They are seven metres tall with a hat in their hand greeting the returning boats from the parade and seeing off the boats setting sail. These two militaries are made of bronze and are the figures on Taranto's Sailor's Monument, commissioned by an admiral during the second World War to celebrate the tie between them and the city.
