The biggest painting in the world can be viewed in the council hall of the Doge’s Palace, the center of power of the Republic of Venice. With its seven meters in height and twenty-four meters in width, Tintoretto’s Paradise is an enormous canvas located on the east wall of the room, behind the stands where the counselors sat. An elder at the time, the Venetian painter created the Paradiso with the help of his son Domenico, painting separate pieces of cloth, which were then sewn into a single canvas. Differently from the initial sketch, with many more religious references, the painting portrays the Virgin Mary who intercedes for Venice in front of Christ.
