What is a mummy doing between two crocodiles in the Natural History museum? The answer is given by Giovanni Miani, a Venice explorer, who around the half-way through the nineteenth century made several attempts to discover the sources of the Nile. During his adventures, Miani found the mummy of a woman between two embalmed crocodiles, in the same position they are seen in today inside the museum. The woman was a priestess who ministered to the sacred animals of God Sobek and for this reason she was buried with her reptiles.
