Venice

Squero San Trovaso, Dorsoduro 1097

From the year 1600, the Squero San Trovaso is a point of reference for all Venetians. It was the place where small boats, used to move around the channels of Venice, were sold and repaired. Today it is owned by the City of Venice and is specialized in gondolas, both old and new. The name of this and few other squeri still in service in the Laguna derives from a tool, the squara, used in fact for boat construction. The Cadore wood (from the ononymous mountain region bordering with Austria) with which the ships were built covers the walls of the workshop that, if it weren’t for the space sloping towards the water, would be a perfectly credible mountain hut.
