DOLPHINS IN VIAREGGIO

Viareggio

Associazione Cetus - Villa Borbone - Via dei Tigli

The dolphins living in the open sea off the Viareggio coast are citizens with very special rights.
Some were born in the Viareggio waters themselves, while others are from the islands of Elba, Capraia, and Giglio, though they often travel towards Monaco or France. Along with the whales, these animals – officially Tursiops trucantus – live in the Pelagos Sanctuary, a marine protected area of the Mediterranean inhabited by numerous species of marine mammals.
The CETUS organization takes care of the study and protection of the mammals within the sanctuary, as well as fostering education concerning the ocean and its inhabitants. Among the many initiatives organized, boat tours and environmental cruises are an absolute must, while the “Adopt a dolphin” initiative is simply irresistible.
