Via Montramito
Via Montramito is a long road that crosses Viareggio and leads straight to the sea: it is no surprise that it is the place where the city was born.

In the Middle Ages, a wooden tower was erected on the “royal road” as a lookout for protection from sea attacks. The same road was used to carry to Lucca the material necessary for the construction of a new watchtower, which was named Turris de Via Regia in its honor.
