During the French occupation of the Netherlands, Napoleon housed his horses inside a church, called the "Amstel church". This building still exists and is nowadays one of the most beautiful wooden churches of Amsterdam, displaying a neo-Gothic interior and a monumental 19th century organ. The square around this church is a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the sun. And don’t miss out on the flower market that is hosted every Monday morning.
