The name "Kakker" originated as the Hague earlier inhabitants were quite frugal, but would always want to appear generous. To show that this frugality was rather overstated, the master baker baked a generously filled raisin bread in the form of a cake, called “Haagsche Kakker” and used to bestow on occasions.The Haagsche Kakker, incorporates the best raisins, along with almonds, honey and cinnamon, which, in combination with a special baking process and temperature, formed an artisanal currant bread. The master bakers "Hessing" have resumed and restored this old tradition; The recipe for this bread is however still kept a secret and exclusively used at their bakery in The Hague. Come and surprise your family and friends with this currant bread delicacy.
