Tilburg

Moerenburgseweg 1, Tilburg

Secret History
House Moerenburg was one of the three stone houses in Tilburg in the beginning of the fourteenth century and must have been a very imposing site at the time. The manor was surrounded by water and had beautiful vast French garden. Unfortunately, the Moerenburg house was demolished in 1750. There was nothing left for posterity. No construction drawings, not even a ruin. Wiped away by time, perhaps sunk in the marshes... Yet, one tiny lead remained. A painting, depicting the Moerenburg House as it once looked, was discovered. With the painting as a guide, a piece of the past has been brought to life with an iron reconstruction at the place where once the stone house stood. The Moerenburg silhouette serves as a gateway to the underlying landscape park. All in all worth a look, because sometimes, history suddenly re-enters the present.
