The back valley of St John’s church in Gdansk is a place with an incredibly romantic story of the forbidden love. Legend has it that this small corner witnessed the tragic love of a local monk to a young town girl. They decided to live together in his room in secret. Unfortunately the truth came out very quickly and the girl was kicked out from the sacred walls. In his sorrow and longing, the monk jumped off the church roof. What happened to the girl remains a mystery to this day. To commemorate this story of tragic love, the corner has been called Kissing Alley. The story of this passionate and forbidden romance has been luring lovers for years. They come and declare love to each other in this particular place.
