UNDERGROUND CAT PARADISE

Warsaw

1 Parade Square, lower level 2

Lower level 2 in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw is home to the palace cats. “Cat paradise” is looked after by Ms Elżbieta M., who feeds the animals and gets veterinary help when needed. Cats are listed in the palace’s expenditure registry as they play a vital role in eliminating rodents. They also have a dedicated space where they can play and sleep, called “Cat land”. These unique underground tenants are descendants of cats living here during the construction of the palace in the 1950s. You can see the palace cats during an organized tour of the basement. “The Night of the Museums” is one of a few opportunities when you can visit this cat kingdom.
