A CHARMING BLUE-AND-WHITE CHURCH

Porto

Rua de Santa Catarina 428, 4000-511 Porto

This 18th-century church, often referred to as the Chapel of Santa Catarina, is a definite must-visit in Porto. In 1929, the entire exterior was covered with azulejos (traditional painted tin-glazed ceramic tiles). The work of painter and ceramist Eduardo Leite, these beautiful blue-and-white tiles represent scenes from the life of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Catherine. Step inside to see the image of Nossa Senhora das Almas (Our Lady of the Souls), which also dates back to the 18th century. After visiting the church, call into the nearby Majestic Café, an iconic spot for possibly the best pastéis de nata in Porto!
