Drum Castle, Drumoak

One of Scotland’s oldest tower homes, Drum Castle is home to the Garden of Historic Roses. The walled garden’s quadrants show how rose gardens were traditionally planted over each of the last four centuries. Behold a kaleidoscope of international blooms in shades of red, orange, peach and pink. While exploring the castle’s verdant grounds, make sure to check out the family cemetery. Here, you’ll come across a collection of small granite headstones commemorating the manor’s pets. Be on the lookout for one gravestone in particular, belonging to easily the oldest member of the clan. The inscription states that 'Torty' passed on at the age of 149, although family records indicate that the tortoise may have lived to 170.
