For a truly enchanting walk around Lymm Dam lake, focus your gaze on the surrounding woodlands. Soon, the forest comes alive with faces and creatures carved into the trees. A bearded man peers out with a woebegone look. A hare stands to attention at the base of an ash tree. A centipede’s path is frozen in time. Stroll on to see the Gothic Revival St. Mary’s Church. A few minutes later, you’ll emerge in the village of Lymm. Crossed by a canal where decorative houseboats bob, the town centre is home to an ancient market cross. Take care to remain lawful, as there’s also a set of wooden stocks that remind one of what happens to unruly villagers.
