Like to know what 'wellness' was like in Georgian times? Pay a visit to the 200-year-old Bath House, perched above the River Wharfe. The basement houses a small pool, filled with icy water from a local spring. After a bracing plunge, the bather would hurry to the 'warming room' on the upper floor. Here, guests would enjoy food and wine while playing cards or dominos in front of a roaring fire. It was an ideal spot for the gentry to relax, away from the prying eyes of servants.
