SOUK AL ALAWI IN AL BALAD JEDDAH

Jeddah

Old Jeddah

Souks are traditional Arabian marketplaces that are very popular with locals and tourists alike, but there aren’t many that practice the process of barter. The oldest souk in Jeddah, Souk Al Alawi in the historical Balad area of Old Jeddah allows patrons to barter and bargain their way to its local produce, spices, leather merchandise, oud frankincense, Arabic perfumes and many other items. As a patron, you get what you want with little or no cash coming into the picture just by exchanging quid pro quo. While you are bartering and haggling with the shopkeeper, make sure to buy dried organic hibiscus flower petals for the local special 'karakdeh' or hibiscus flower tea to soothe away your shopping fatigue later.
