The imposing Hagia Sophia certainly tops any tourist’s sightseeing list. Rebuilt numerous times, its very architecture speaks of its layered history. The Ottomans painting over the Christian icons is well known, but did you know that a Viking by the name of Halfdan has supposedly left his mark as well? Etched into a railing is a message that can be translated as: “Halfdan was here in 247”. Now it’s up to you to find what may be history’s very first example of graffiti.
