Popped in at 8pm for a swift one before getting our train. Drakes Bar exterior entrance is a creaky old fire exit with tatty signage. Had to check to see if it was even open, due to poor lighting indoors and out. The front half was laid out for breakfast, the remaining tables were completely bare. Absolutely no atmosphere, partly due to no other customers on a Saturday night. Service ok. This bar is in desperate need of care, attention and total redecoration. All other bars in Exeter over spilling with people; I think the hotel is missing a trick.

Drakes Bar is the main hotel bar and restaurant and is accessed internally through the main hotel lobby and reception, and as you mentioned the old entrance is now a fire exit to meet regulations. The bar also serves food in the evening and is set for dining guests in the section you saw and allowing those wishing to have a drink to use the other areas within the bar, I agree the bar was quiet during your visit with guests attending events elsewhere within the city. This varies from day to day with so many popular local events as well as those held at the hotel, as you mentioned Exeter offers a great choice of restaurant's and bar's for both day visitors as well as our valued hotel residents. An amazing stay in a beautiful hotel. Room 106 will forever go down as the most beautiful surprise a couple could experience. We decided to spend the night in Exeter and I simply asked for a birthday cake for the room. The staff put 1 and 1 together and dressed the entire room as a birthday celebration. Thank you Rougemont. What an incredibly beautiful gift.

My room was spacious and modern but just lacked a comfy chair to sit in. The building is neatly historic; especially the stained glass window. The pizza meal option looked reasonably priced. I was cheered to receive a free drinks voucher on arrival that I used on departure.

Great location. Very nice and clean hotel - from the lobby to the guest rooms, everything was spotless. The staff was friendly and attentive, making for a comfortable stay. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a clean and welcoming accommodation experience.

Cheguei ao hotel na segunda feira e o check in não foi acolhedor. Atribuiram o quarto 204 e não avisaram que tinha de subir escadas, vusto ter uma mala grande. Acho que essas informações têm de ser ditas ao cliente. No quarto, a sanita estava suja. Desci à receção e pedi que fosse alguém ao quarto para limpar. Disseram que iam mandar alguém. Quando voltei ao quarto depois do jantar, estava igual. Eu tive de limpar, para poder utilizar a sanita. A cama tinha cabelos. Também tive eu de sacudir para poder dormir. No restaurante do hotel, quando entrei para jantar, não fui cumprimentada, apesar de ter dado boa noite. Na minha opinião, para um Mercure, deveria ser standard cumprimentar os clientes. A preocupação do staff foi, trazer a conta antes da comida ser servida. Não gostei e acho que para o tipo de hotel, o serviço poderia ser melhor.
