The ultimate cosmopolitan city, Sao Paulo has welcomed immigrants from Italy, Syria, Lithuania. The city is also home to a very large Japanese community, who can gather at Sao Paulo’s numerous Buddhist temples. The most prestigious of them all? The temple of the Nitirensyu community. This temple houses a real treasure—nothing less than some of Buddha’s ashes. It is difficult, however, to see them for yourself, since nun Myoho Ishimoto refuses to reveal their exact location inside the temple. And even then, seven keys are needed to access the relic. But that should not stop you from visiting the temple, open every Sunday at 3:30 pm. Comunidade Budista Nichirenshu do Brasil - Templo EmyojiR. João de Santa Maria, 289 - Vila Brasilina, São Paulo
