There are quite a few places in Erfurt vying for the title of 'best view of the Old Town'. But it's from the Petersberg Citadel that you get a really impressive view. You get to this old fortress by following a fortified walkway from Domplatz. In ten minutes you'll be up at the top. From the viewing platform on top of the citadel you get sweeping views to far beyond the city limit. A particularly good way to round off the experience is to drop in at the Glashütte Restaurant very close by, a glass cube on stilts where you can sit and carry on drinking in the view, preferably with a glass of wine to wash down a typical Thüringer dish
