The Marian apparition at the Sanctuary is commemorated every 12th day in July: it is the day on which believers swarm in to attend a number of rituals.
Among the traditional rites, there is one unique to the people of Stezzano and that distinguishes the feast of Nostra Signora dei Campi (Virgin Mary of the fields): the worshippers gather in front of the church, in the lawn surrounding the adjacent fountain, and dine on radicchio and eggs.
These two very basic ingredients reflect the spirit of the people, connected to the land, to natural foods that are easily found in the orchard or the henhouse of every house, even on a day of celebration.
