Venice and the doves are by now an indissoluble binomial, but there are other winged creatures that populate the sky over St. Mark’s Square. In the past the protagonist of the opening feast for the Venice Carnival was a Columbina (a mask that takes its name from the white bird), but today it is an angel that sets flight from the bell tower. After a week, the event repeats with the flight of an eagle. Tied to a metal wire, the two artists spread their wings to slowly glide towards the square filled with heads pointing up.
