Myths & Legends
"The sound of history is rarely heard as loud as the reminder of the battle for Belgrade in 1459. The Hungarian and the Ottoman Empires fought a fierce battle over Belgrade, fighting for domination in the Balkans and protection of their lands. If you manage to find yourself in front of number 23 Krunska Street, in front of the oldest Catholic Church in Belgrade, at noon you might be able to listen to history. Fearing that Christianity might succumb to the Ottoman Empire, Pope Callixtus III ordered bells of every European church to ring at noon, as support for the Christian forces in the battle. It worked, Ottoman forces withdrew and the news of victory reached Europe. The bells at noon became bells of victory. And they still ring today. So, wherever in the world you are, you will be reminded of Belgrade. "
