Sao Paulo

Maj. Diogo street, 353 – Bela Vista

Are you curious to know how mental patients were treated in days of old? If the answer is yes, Casa de Dona Yayá has some answers. Sebastiana de Mello Freire, known as Yayá, was the last resident of the place, acquired by her caretakers after being judged as incapable of administering her inherited fortune, at the age of 31. She lived in recluse in the mansion that today is a symbol of eclectic architecture. Classified since 1998, it's currently managed by the Centro de Preservação Cultural da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (Cultural Preservation Center of the University of São Paulo). It's worth knowing the collections, history, and entering the reflection given to the visitors.
