The typically Sicilian idiom acqua a linzolu (water in sheets) derives just from the Fontana dell’Amenano and the spectacular effect created by the water flowing out from it.
The water exits the cornucopia held by the young lad representing the Amenano River, descends to the water basin with its rounded, smooth edges, and finally projects out of the fountain towards the real river just a few feet below.
The water’s continuous jet creates an elegant and uniform effect that, coupled with the reflection of the Carrara marble, makes it become a light and silky object similar to a bed sheet.
