THE BIGGEST TREE IN THE WORLD
Palermo
Ficus - Piazza Marina
The Ficus Macrophylla adorning the Piazza Marina since its birth is a real rarity.
It is not difficult to find, seeing as its 10000 cubic metres of foliage make it the largest tree in all of Europe.
The branches of the ficus, planted in 1863 by the architect who designed the square, are armed with aerial roots, which become trunks once they reach the ground.
Thanks to the soil and the climate, this excellent exemplary continues to grow strong along the support of its branches and its resourcefulness.
