Villino Ruggeri - Piazzale della Libertà 1

“Qui faccio buon sangue io” (“I make blood good here”), stated the ceramic sign – no longer present – at the entrance of Villino Ruggeri. First of all the phrase was related to the owner’s profession: Oreste Ruggeri owned a company that produced a medicine to cure anemia. Secondly, it described the small villa, a beautiful Liberty-style construction overlooking the sea: Ruggeri built it following his belief in the therapeutic properties of seawater, and made the villa itself curative too. Gazing at the spectacular structure with four different decorations (one on each façade), the marine-themed decorations below and oriental-style floral decorations above, the stairway and the fountain embellished by big lobster figures, it is evident that the villa is no ordinary country house. The building is a masterpiece wanted by Ruggeri to surprise himself and his fellow citizens.
