Traditional Burano lace, one of the most precious and famous laces in the world, has a mythical origin. The legend sees Nicolò as its protagonist, a very handsome fisherman on the island, who was so in love with his girlfriend that he resisted the temptation of a group of sirens encountered at sea. The fantastical creatures gave him some lace made of sea foam, which Nicolò gave to his loved one on their wedding day. The history of Venetian embroidery began with this unique and light exemplar.
