"The old railway bridge in Belgrade seems gray and forgotten. It is sill in use, though. And its antique looks it dons to the fact that it has not been painted, ever. Legend is that painting of the bridge will demolish it. It seems to be based on superstition. The bridge has been demolished and built again three times in the 50 years of its first opening, no wonder people developed superstitious ideas.
But as many things in life, the explanation is much more rational – when constructing the bridge, the several tons of paint that are necessary to cover the bridge were not taken into account. The increased weight would significantly change the static and bring the bridge down. So the bridge continues its gray existence, because function sometimes is more important than form. If you like industrial backdrops, the part of Brodarska Street that passes below the bridge is worth an expedition. "
