The medieval village of Woughton on the Green is home to St. Mary’s church, whose origins date back to the 13th century. The font reaches even further back, to the Saxon era. When you enter the church grounds you’ll go through the beautiful Victorian lych gate. As you pass, spare a thought for all those who waited here for baptisms or burials many years ago. In the past, the dead were left at the gate for 24 hours – just to make sure they really had passed away.
