FROM SNOTS TO LACE
Nottingham
The Larder on Goose Gate, 16-22 Goose Gate
The Lace Market is the oldest part of Nottingham, with traces of settlement dating back to prehistory. Want to make the kids laugh? The original Saxon town of “Snottingaham” (Anglo-Saxon for “Snot’s people”) was built here. Most of the buildings you see today date from the 19th century, when the Lace Market was established. Following a long period of dereliction, it’s now being redeveloped as a cultural quarter. Head here for some of the city’s best restaurants, bars and clubs. Specialising in classic and modern British cuisine, The Larder on Goose Gate occupies what was once the first shop owned by Jesse Boot, founder of the Boots pharmacy chain.
