Die Schmiere is Frankfurt's most charming cellar theatre set within the old walls of Frankfurt's Carmelite Monastery. Cabaret and satire artists have been performing here since the 1950s. The auditorium has hardly changed since then – a colourful collection of quaint sofas, old stools and chairs. The stage curtain is simply a cardboard wall. According to a rumour, anyone who comes with and leaves their own chair here gets in free. Perhaps that's why there's such an eclectic muddle of furniture. Why not try it out for yourself?
