URBAN GARDENING

URBAN GARDENING

Frankfurt

Frankfurter Garten, Ostbahnhof

The area between Hanauer Landstrasse and Ostpark used to be bleak and grey, but now the square is a green garden oasis. Instead of exhaust fumes and honking car horns, cress, chervil, Jerusalem artichokes and tomatoes sprout in the summertime from the pots and flower beds in the Frankfurt Garden. And there’s plenty of room, as the garden covers 2,500 square metres. The project was initiated by Daniela Cappelluti. The passionate Frankfurt event manager founded an association, found sponsors and made the urban garden a reality. In the warm months the bees hum, and in winter a Christmas market is held. A quiet, tranquil spot to rest up after a city stroll, with a sun deck where you can put your feet up. Or simply pick up a shovel and dig – everyone’s allowed to lend a hand.
