The residence of the Manzoli family was built at the end of the 1700’s on the remains of the foundations of a thirteenth century house.
On the left there is an archway joining the building onto the San Donato church and leading to the ghetto in Bologna. Above the opening there is the Mascherone which in the past was very well known by the people of Bologna.
The old paintings show that during a gathering or special event the Manzoli family would make wind come out of the Mascherone’s mouth through cannula tubing and the locals would throw it down from the balcony and be literally inundated in titbits.
