As well as being the best-preserved Roman archaeological site in Sardinia, the aqueduct built between the 1st and 2nd century A.D. was an extremely important public infrastructure.
Water arrived from Mount Cabu Abbas, which in fact means “cape water”, to the Sa Rughittula area, entering a piscina limaria, a tank for settling of impurities. The clean water then continued its path from the tank to the center of Olbia and the thermal baths, running through channels positioned over the arches – still visible today – and above the walls in certain sections.
The structure, over 3 km (almost 2 miles) in length, represents a millennial treasure of public engineering.
