Olbia

Museo archeologico di Olbia - Via Macerata

The Archaeology Museum of Olbia narrates its local history – from prehistory to the 19th century –, but the central point of the exhibition is the attack to the city occurred around 450 A.D., when the Vandals came by sea and sunk eleven ships anchored at the old port.
Thanks to virtual reconstruction, visitors may re-live all the episodes of the invasion and of the finding of the ship relics. A number of ship’s wheel axles and masts are also on exhibit at the museum.
The artifacts related to the maritime world make the Olbia museum a one-of –a-kind space. It is not a coincidence if the structure of the building itself is strongly linked to the sea: set on the island of Pedona, next to the old harbor, its very shape resembles an anchored ship.
