On the Monte Pellegrino mountain, the shrine of Saint Rosalia is embedded in the cave in which her bones were found.
Once you walk past the façade attached to the rocks, you will find an open dome framing the sky, and arrive at a gate leading to the cave: this is the heart of the shrine and destination of the acchianata, the nighttime pilgrimage the people of Palermo go on to honor their patron saint.
Beside the well, and the numerous ex votos left by the pilgrims, there is also an anchor, the offering of a crew that survived a shipwreck thanks to the comfort given by the vision of the Saint on the cliff.
