Among the most important monuments to visit in Palermo, you just can’t avoid the Castello della Zisa, a masterpiece which is the perfect representation of the two most emblematic dominations of Western Sicily giving birth to a brand new style: the Arab-Norman. In the Stanza della Fontana (fountain room) there are frescoes representing some of the gods of Mt. Olympus, considered the custodians of an immense treasure said to be hidden in the palace. The legend is also nurtured by the spiral display of the figures, causing all those who try to figure out how many they are to simply get dizzy and lose count: the protagonists of the Zisa castle are believed to be under a spell that has turned optical illusion into devilry.
