The Zisa - Piazza Zisa

A park and a fountain surround the Zisa palace, the name is from the Arab language and means the splendid one. This Arab Norman style jewel from 1100 is perfectly symmetrical and fascinating, and has been recognised by UNESCO as one of the treasures of humanity. The splendid one however is hiding a secret and some strange inhabitants: inside the palace, two lovers have hidden their treasure, which is now being guarded by frescoes of devils in the fountain hall. Not wishing to give away the place where the treasure is hidden, the creatures keep moving from place to place: it becomes impossible for the visitors to keep count of the amount of depicted little devils and be awarded the treasure. The air currents inside the building are owed to the moving around of the imps, or more likely than that, to the ventilation system made of holes and canes.
