Grotta dei Cordari - Via Paradiso 14

When seepage waters or groundwater basins are active, the walls of the Grotta dei Cordari shine with tricks of the light. Their color is given by the alternation of different layers of removed rock and moss, and the moving effect given by the succession of walls and pillars. Its most evocative room, the Latomia del Paradiso (the paradise dungeon), was the place where hemp ropemakers have worked hemp for centuries, due indeed to the perfect humidity of the cave for rope manufacturing. Despite such craft has perished in the past few decades, the magic of this special workplace is still very much alive.
