THE MILLER’S HOUSE

Siracusa

La casetta dei mugnai - Teatro Greco - Viale Giulio Emanuele Rizzo 2

What’s a little house doing above the cavea of the Greek Theater of Syracuse? First of all, we must rewind the tape to the late Middle Ages, when Sicily was split in feuds. Thanks to the watermills the city was finally independent for cereal grounding activity, but the new constructions defaced one of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth.
The miller’s house, atop a rock, is the only specimen surviving the demolition of the watermills in the 1800s, and the Teatro Greco has regained its role as the only wonder of the Temenite hill.
