The church of St. John lies upon a parvis raised above street level and covered with stones.
Eight statues standing on the balustrade around the churchyard give their welcome to visitors, indicating to them the road to follow to reach the church, and metaphorically the example to follow too.
The four evangelists stand on the north and south positions, while at the front of the church, standing on the edges of the staircase, there are the statues of the Four Great Doctors of Church: Saint Jerome, Saint Ambrose, Saint Augustine, and Saint Gregory (pope Gregory I).
