FREEDOM!

FREEDOM!

Liverpool

International Slavery Museum, Dock Traffic Office, Albert Dock, Liverpool Waterfront

The power and riches of Liverpool and her buildings, ships and docks were built with money generated by the slave trade. The International Slavery Museum tells the history of this period and highlights the importance of the work of the abolitionists. There are galleries dedicated to life and culture in West Africa before the transatlantic slave trade, the history of slavery, and the legacies of slavery and current human rights issues. Don’t miss the poignant Freedom! sculpture by a group of Haitian artists, made out of recycled metal car parts and junk found in the dangerous slums of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Entrance to the Museum is free.
